I’ll admit I don’t know what I am doing. Just got a vox bass amp. What’s the best way to set up the tone knobs? There are 4 (bass, low mid, high mid, treble). I suppose it depends how I want it to sound, but is there a general classic setup?
Thanks

Put them all at 12 o clock to start. Play with them like that for a little while while start experimenting once you have a base line. For my bass amp I have the bass at 3 o clock, mids at, 9 o clock highs around 10/ 11 o clock. That's just what I like every person and every amp is different

Set it to taste, but here are the four sample settings that were in my Mesa Subway owners manual (all in o'clock):

Classic Slap
Bass 1:00
Low Mid 10:00
High Mid 11:00
Treble 2:00

Rock Authority
Bass 11:00
Low Mid 11:00
High Mid 1:00
Treble Just past 12:00

J Bass Funk
Bass 1:00
Low Mid Just past 12:00
High Mid 1:00
Treble 2:00

Fretless
Bass 1:00
Low Mid Just past 12:00
High Mid Just past 12:00
Treble 11:00

All amps are different, so just try different stuff. The Mesa manual had the gain at about 10:00 on all settings. I put my gain at about 3:00.

Anytime I'm trying to set the EQ on an unfamiliar amp, I start with everything at 12 o'clock. Then I explore the extremes of each knob one at a time, all the way to zero then full on, to see how much of an effect each has, keep doing this with smaller increments until it starts to sound "right" to YOUR ears.
I've found this to work very well when playing alone. Throw your rig into a mix with other musicians and your "at home" tone probably won't work. My settings for playing live is very different than practice/noodling at home.

Doesn't matter.

Just turn volume knob to 11.
