Sweet. I have a helix and found a deftones preset with a specific IR. Sounds really good. Wednesday night, I learned My Own Summer and will be playing more Deftones this weekend.

The first pedal I saw mentioned was the Helix. I've watched a lot of comparison videos on YouTube of the different multi pedals against each other and also against the actual amps. It's pretty amazing how far amp modeling has come.

That's the damn truth because it's hard enough to even explain what I'm doing

I wouldnt use just a digital effects pedal personally as my main source of guitar tone.. But if I did, id avoid using IR responses and just concentrate on EQ. Cutting the low at 98, and the highs at 20k for starters on rhythm guitars.
I never got serious enough about playing to get a legit rig. I'm a Metallica megafan so everything I play is geared towards that. I got to a point where I was tired of physically playing and moved into a knob turner. I had a Mesa Boogie Mark III Red Stripe with the graphic EQ and that thing was amazing, but it was too much amp to just play around the house. The one time I cranked it I thought the house was going to fall into a sinkhole, so I just got the DigiTech RP500 that has a Mark IV amp model and a parametric EQ that's fun to play with, as well as all of the different cab models

I've had the headrush, Podgo and helix. I liked the headrush ok, sold it and bought and sold many amps. Still have a few. Bought a pod go which I really liked but sold it to get the Helix. I have an shop that is a dedicated mancave/music room. I play the Helix 90% of the time. I run it into a Mixer and 2 JBL EON One arrays. My favorite setup so far.

Yes Reaper is a fantastic DAW. I jumped ship from Pro Tools and never looked back to be honest. You then need to download an IR loader. Place your amp in front of the IR in the signal chain. If you are using newer plugins like Neural DSP, for instance, the IR can be loaded directly from the cabinet section of the plugin. It even comes with stand alone versions so you don’t have to load the amp sim in your DAW if you just want to jam.
Oh man I’m like some ignorant cave man with all this stuff

Lol it’s all good I should have articulated myself better. It sounds much more complicated than it actually is.

Nah your explanation was fine just a lot of stuff to process.
Looks like there’s a plethora of good tutorials on YT for various knowledge levels. Actually got it to the point of recording something now just have to learn what all the various effects do. Had to update my PC audio driver and download and learn how to import them. Wasn’t hard at all really just need some direction.
