How over looked are The Afghan Whigs?

They were a name I had always seen online or would hear in a mention. Never did I give them a listen until one evening while watching Later... With Jools Holland.
They played "Aligers" and I was instantly hooked.
I then take to Spotify and Youtube and begin diving into their discography. It did not disappoint.
I just cannot understand how I did not hear them on FM radio growing up. Gentleman rocks and is as 90's a song as there is... whatever that means.
Anyone else new to Afghan Whigs? Their new album is quite good for a band that had taken significant time off.

"1965" is a great record and a lot of it was written in New Orleans. They do put on a show

They live in NOLA some of them. Greg Dulli lives there part time. Recorded most of this last release there...
Mention it in this interview

That's my sweet friend Cully on the drums <3
He's a badass. He doesn't tour with them anymore, though...apparently Greg Dulli is pretty tough to work for.

I like them alright. They've got a pretty hard core following. I've got 1965, Uptown Avondale, and Gentlemen. All of them are pretty good, but none are phenomenal imo.

Uptown Avondale was what drew me into them. Had it on repeat the other day working around the house.
Gentlemen is such a good album IMO

Well, give them a listen. Nostalgia brah

I've seen them live more than any other band.
Unfortunately, Dulli can veer into self-parody, and 1965 was a major letdown after their Black Love masterpiece, which was criminally ignored.

I'm like 3 years new. They're my oldest brother's favorite band, and I figured that was enough to warrant a back-listening project.
Their newest album is excellent excellent.

Very
Loved them, Screaming Trees/Mark Lanegan, Posies, Lemonheads/Evan Dando, Ocean Blue, Blue Rodeo, Lloyd Cole, etc..many acts that drew mostly indie/limited/short runs in early 1990s.
