What are you planning to do with it? Casual listening, HiFi audiophile system, DJ system?
What are you connecting it to? (Do you have a receiver / amp / stereo with a "Phono" input on it?)
If not, you may want to look for one that has the Phono to Line conversion built in. Some of the newer models have this.
Give us more info, so we can give you better instructions.

The Transrotor Artus is the obvious choice.

I am selling a Techincs SL-DD22 if you're in Baton Rouge. Its a nice record player, though I'm sure a new needle would be a good idea for it.
If you're planning to casually listen to records (i.e., you don't need audiophile type equipment) I would buy a good used record player before I bought some crappy $100 Crosley turntable.

Does it make a difference if it's played on phono or not

I'd like the record player to have the speakers. And I wouldn't say I'm a casual listener..I play music, but I'm no audiophile. Something good, without the outrageous price tag.

The Transrotor Artus is merely $190,000. I would think it would be within your price range.
