just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this amp and if so, what is the overall impression? Been interested in this amp for a while, yet still have not used one or taken the time to find one.

I'd be running it with a 4x12 bogner uberkab. Guitars are a les Paul with emgs and a Dean Dixie rebel.

I have never played through one, but it is one of the more popular tube amps in today's hard rock. Also expensive. It is known mostly for it's powerful gain it produces. It really packs a punch. Notable artists that use it include Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge), Richard Kruspe (Ramstein), Vernon Reid (Living Colour), Munky (Korn), and many others. From my understanding it is best suited for heavy rock/metal.

I plugged into one at a fancy guitar shop in Nashville once and it made me sound like I knew what the hell I was doing. Really good sound for heavy distortion but there are better ones for playing clean. Mesa Boogie amps are pretty awesome though, can't really go wrong with any of them.

I've used the EVH, marshall, engl, blackstar and randall. Just wondered about those.

What would you suggest btw?

same wattage?

I love 70's ampeg V4's (100 watts)

but you should these out too:

VHT pit bull/deliverance
Engl Fireball
5150 III

Usually dudes playing those amps are going for that super compressed high gain tone and end up dabbling in axefx at some point... which i'm not a fan of at all.

I had one but ended up selling it and getting a Dual Rectifier, the Triple is just way more than you will EVER need.

I don't know, This one would be for a studio. if I liked it there, I'd tour with it in which I'd need 2. Possibly 3 for a backup.

I like that they're 150w. What kind of cab and guitars you using?

150 tube watts is a hell of a lot of power for a studio amp.

ampeg V4 then with a matching 4x12 cabinet

get a lone wolf audio left hand wrath (HM2 clone) and you're all set
seriously, that is widely regarded as THE best death metal pedal on the market

One of my favorite pedals is my japanese made boss heavy metal h2.

I have 37 pedals, 7 of which I wish I could get working again. 2 effects pedals which I give too much attention to. I have used the mark iv and know that mesa is legit. If this is more gain and kick than the mark iv or v, I'll probably go with it after I spend some time on it.

What I'm really on the lookout for is a vader cab.

I used to have a single rectifier. It was a great amp. I eventually moved on because I found it to be something of a one trick pony. When I had one they were just two channels. I think they have added more channels and features since then.

I have an Orange Rockerverb 50 now, and it is a fantastic amp. It really can do everything I want it to including balls to the wall metal. I have a Les Paul with emg's as well, and it screams through that thing. I'm not that familiar with Death Metal guitar sounds, but the orange sounds great for stuff I like (Mastodon, High on Fire, Down etc.)

Downside to the Orange is that it is quite expensive.

150 watts is crazy to me. I've had multiple 50 watt amps including the single rectifier that could easiky drown out Jon Bonham.

In the drive to be "loud" - something was lost along the way. Your point is an important one - guitar, key and vocal amplification in a rock band only needs to bring it up to the level of the drums - the PA public feed is what makes it loud enough for everyone in the venue to hear. If it's a small club or room with no PA, then it's even sillier to overdo the volume of the instruments.

You're just making more work for someone else to try to balance things out.

This. Unless you are playing stadiums, there is no need for that much power. I could never get my 18 watt Dr Z even half way up when mic'd unless I was recording in iso. Granted, we have different tone goals, but I'd much rather let a tube amp do what it wants to do and push those tubes.

I mean that's not really true though. It depends on what genre of music you play. He plays death metal. If you play doom/stoner/sludge, you're going to want a 100+ watt tube amp.

I prefer the dual rectifier. If you want an amp that just does extreme gain better than just about anything else, triple is the way to go. I find the dual allows for better nuance and fills and still provides some monster distortion.

Then again, I play a baritone guitar in drop A# with blackouts, so the triple might just be overkill for my guitar.
