Not sure if trolling. That has to be a joke. Some of your others are reaches, but I can get the argument. These, smh.

I'm going to go with Linda Ronstadt and her backup band. Every member was a masterful musician, and of course, Linda was the greatest female pop vocalist that ever lived.
Same for Alison Krauss. Union Station has to be the most talented band touring today.

p-funk isn't as big of a reach as the others.
p-frick rules
Their influence goes well beyond just all the p-frick rip-offs that came after. Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ween, phish, Widespread Panic are all rock bands that either took a lot from p-funk or cover them.
So much rap is just p-funk samples and sounds. Espeically Dr. Dre and west coast 90s rap

Not a troll at all.
I’d put every one of the bands way over some shite American band like The Eagles or the Beachboys.

Then make a thread called "My favorite bands"
Very few of my favorite bands would be in contention for "Greatest American Band" and I'm self aware enough not to suggest that they should be.

This is why I started my post with the impossibility clause. How do you define “greatest”? We never defined that in this thread to start with.
Album sales? Talent? Innovation? Uniqueness? Longevity? Influence?
I’d put The Meters and Pfunk up against any other band listed in this thread without a question.
Tool is one of the greatest bands ever. Regardless of country of origin or genre.
And if I started a “my favorite American band” thread I’d have included Goose, Iceman Special, Dream Theater, and Korn.
Oh and of course Alfred Matthew Yankovic.

I would love to say Van Halen instead of Van Hagar but Van Halen had more hits with Sammy.
