I notice quite a few fans on the board. I wasn't aware of many Deadheads while I was at LSU. I introduced them to a bunch of my friends all while being called hippie. They soon realized how good it was .

Anyways, what are your favorite songs?

Scarlet Begonias is my #1
Box of Rain has a lot of sentimental value to me
Golden Road is up there too

Too many to dive into really. Also do you have a favorite show that you listen to?
5/7/77 is mine

Half Step has been my favorite recently, but it changes all the time.

specific dates are hard for me to recall, especially as I get older. anything from May of 77 is always right on the money. I was listening to a Dicks Picks from 85 the other day that was really good, maybe 9/1?

73-74 are probably my favorite years, followed by 89-91.

favorite songs (at the moment) > Comes a Time, Wharf Rat, Stella Blue (love Jerry ballads), Althea, Box of Rain, Cassidy, Other One, Estimated Prophet, Fire on the Mountain, Playin in the Band, Loser, Ramblin Rose, Must've Been the Roses, Crazy Fingers...

I could keep going

I saw 18 shows from 1991 - 1995. some of the greatest times of my life. magic times indeed.

Ripple. I want it played at my funeral. Hell, I want it played at my wedding, too

72' is the banner year for me.

Favorites:
Scarlet, Franklin's tower, He's Gone, Jack Straw

I really don't care for the sound the shows had in the 80's. To much synth piano and not really a fan of Mydland's vocals

Really like some of the last stuff they did: So Many Roads, Liberty

I liked Mydland's voice quite a bit. I'll be honest Donna was the weak link for me.

I wasn't fortunate enough to see anything with Jerry (born in '86) I remember when he died my mom cried like crazy and actually got sick for 2-3 days afterward.

Some of my favorite live shows are with Pigpen; that dude was great. Love Light does the trick for me.

Saw The Dead 6 times, Phil and Friends 5or 6 times and Ratdog twice. Closest I could get.

I went to a couple shows on The Dead tour with Warren Haynes, also saw Phil with Trey and Joan Osborne.

Donna is the worst.

In Phils book he talks about wanting her to just shut the frick up.

But actually, Sugar Magnolia
Others?
Pun unavoidable, the first time I heard this Blow Away, I was blown away. Love the power.
Looks Like Rain
Row Jimmy
China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider
GDTRFB > Not Fade Away
I also have always loved this Turn On Your Lovelight with Pigpen, one of the first Dead albums I got, Steppin' Out England '72.

Stood in line for almost 3 hours to meet him and get it signed when that book came out. Gave a copy to my uncle who followed the dead on his bicycle across the country.

Minus Phil's desire to remove soundboard recordings from being traded across the internet Phil has always been very appreciative of fans from what I know.

Enjoyed the book too

I always thought I was unusual for a Dead fan because I liked the songs that were more straight to the point and commercially successful than the long, drawn out jams.

That being said, my current favorite song is Let The Good Times Roll from one of the Alpine Valley shows in the late 80s.
Others are
Scarlet Begonias
Casey Jones
Touch of Grey
Uncle John's Band
Sugar Magnolia - probably my all time favorite

My high school girlfriend thought the line:
"Pays my ticket when I speed"

was

"Tastes my chicken when I sneeze"

Their popular covers are some of my favorites.

Like Try mentioned El Paso

I have David Dodd's annotated GD Lyrics book, before I got that I was on his website every day in high school just studying GD stuff.

I can't get enough of them

Not saying that Mydland couldn't sing, just not a fan myself. I think it comes from listening to so much early stuff where the vocals are pretty much Garcia, Weir, and Pigpen, and then have this entirely new voice take over. I was just so used to the other stuff, that it never sounded right to me. This was pre internet days, so I did not have alot of access to shows from the late 80's.

I dug Brent's voice. good songwriter and player also. I loved the Dear Mr Fantasy > Hey Jude combo he did a few times in the late 80s/early 90s.

I also like how Phil and Friends reworked Just a Little Light with Warren on vocals. i never realized how much he and Brent's vocal stylings were alike.

Was just listening to DP 31. At the end of the Eyes, Bobby is calling someone an idiot for trying to climb the razorwire in front of the stage.

Bobby had AMAZING stage presence and interraction.

One of my favorite things is the dog story from Europ 72 album.
