it's his/their way of spelling Gauthier or Gaultier in an English friendly phonetic way.

Go-Tee-yay.
But it's way too damn close to "Goatse" in my opinion. I see it as a career stopper.

Like others have mentioned, it is getting overplayed.
That's why people need to stop listening to local radio

You're damn right I am! I actually take pride in finding good music long before everyone else "discovers" it. That way I can laugh at threads like this! I fricking LOVE being a music snob.
I am too but this time I was late

Plus the SNL skit was pretty funny too
That had me rolling.
First time I've watched SNL in a very long time just to see his performances.
And I'm going to be such a girl w/ this next statement....but I discovered "Somebody I used to Know" on Glee. Yep. Glee. Heard the song, immediately looked it up, watched the Gotye video and was hooked. I don't really listen to pop/rock radio so I had never heard it before that.
Also..."Eye's Wide Open" is really good and I have also found "I Feel Better" to be quite fun and catchy. Lots of Motown influence on that one.

you should listen to this song.
gotye - giving me a chance
the instrument (which i think is the keyboard) complement his vocals beautifully. it sounds like an eerie 80's throwback influence, in my opinion. i would say it's a love child of travis, coldplay, circa the "yellow" era, and the cure.

I don't listen to the radio, so it isn't killed for me. The whole CD is incredible. Music sounds anywhere from the 60's-70's to current hip hop sounding.
