We've heard both songs. We listened to them both while having unprotected sex with your mother and whispering sweet lullabies into her ear about how it's a damn shame her son has no idea what the term "ripped off" means.

There is a major element of the song that has been done before. It is nearly identical. It's obvious, and jumps out at you. I noticed it the first time I heard the song. Some could argue that it is what makes it so catchy in the first place. Thought we could possibly discuss it. Maybe some still can. You obviously have an odd, irrational attachment to the Fun song, if it causes you to lash out in such a way as you have above, making you incapable of participating in such a discussion.

I'm sure your mother would be proud, boy.

Has anyone seen Fun. in concert? What kind of show do they put on?

I've seen them twice.

Mainly devoid of gimmicks. Minimal props and costumes, mostly just Nate going crazy all over the stage (and sometimes Jack and Andrew too). They actually are fun.

Don't know about that. Don't care. Not saying anyone has a "case" against anyone else.

The only case that's obvious here is your case of the shite for brains.

Simply pointing out how similar the songs are which is obvious.

I noticed it the first time I heard the song.

fun.'s only problem is that they wrote it in the same key as "Cecilia". Most people wouldn't have noticed that the chord progression is the same if not for that.

I just find it hard to believe they did it all on purpose. Some Nights is more pop-influenced than Aim and Ignite, but it's still the guys writing what they want and not really caring what people think as much.

The "Oh woahs" (not sure how else to put it in writing) are identical, to the tee.

I'm not even blasting the song. I actually kinda dig it.

Don't get all worked up. I make fun of everybody's mom on here.

The similarites between "Some Nights" and "Cecilia" are both (a) obvious and (b) innocuous. The song stands alone without the Cecilia-sounding beat going in the back.

It's a very simlar situation to Blurred Lines and Got to Give It Up. If you think Some Nights is a rip-off, then you also think Blurred Lines is a rip-off. And if you think Blurred Lines is a rip-off then that puts in a very small minority of posters here (we had a thread about it) and people generally.

It's hilarious schtick. How come nobody else
thought of that before?

That's a matter of opinion.

And again, it's not just the beat, I was referring more to the "oh whoa"s (again, tough to spell out on a MB), which are identical.

No, it doesn't. Besides, I'd have to be familiar with a song to think it was a rip-off. I'm not familiar with the Thicke song. I think I know which one it is, but if it is the one I'm thinking of, I have yet to make it very far into it.

But who the frick tells someone what they think, anyways?

Okay

However, the people on this site seem to think that they are much more similar than most comparisons on the site, which is devoted to songs that sound just like one another.

...So? What's the problem?

Even if fun. made "Some Nights" similar on purpose, I don't think it and "Cecilia" are close enough to be a case of plagiarism. Some Nights was released in February 2012...if it was a real case, you'd think Simon and Garfunkel or their people would have sued by now.

Otherwise, they're 2 great songs. No reason to get worked up about it.

Didn't say there was one.

This is a thread about the song. It is a rip-off of another song. Nobody had even mentioned the similarities. It was probably the first thing I noticed when I first heard the song.

They probably are, but I don't care. I just found it curious that the thread had gone as far as it had without anyone mentioning it.

I'm the one getting worked up?

Fun. cancelled at the Gentlemen of the Road stopover, but it was alright since John Fogerty was the replacement.

That's one hell of an upgrade. Even though John's voice is pretty shot
