Ronnie James Dio was pretty talented as well
I'm a big Dio fan, but Rob Halford was/is a better vocalist from that genre.

Scott Weiland knocks Axl Rose straight off that list as a rock band frontman vocalist.

While I knew that I’d have critics of my Axl choice, I didn’t expect Weiland to be chosen above him. I knew he’d be controversial as #3 regardless.

To the other poster saying he’s horrible live, I can agree that there is lot of video of him sounding like a dying cat. Much of that happened after he’d been touring for an extended time. What makes his voice special is also what leads to his lack of durability. It’s just my totally unqualified opinion that many of his recorded music is a style that no one else can replicate and I’m just a huge fan of it.

Maybe I should have specified that he is in the top 3 my GOAT male vocalists, even if no one else in the solar system will agree. But hey, I did get 5 upvotes so at least I have some retard friends that agree.

I'm not googling it, but he has either a 5 or a 7 octave range. Not many singers have that.

I mean I do too but if all the ones I hit are wrong then I storm off stage blaming the equipment that doesn't make me a good vocalist.

Mercury ventured too far into pseudo operatic stuff, couldn't even be called rock.

Paul Rodgers best male rock vocalist hands down.

Jagger is the original and best rock front man, everyone else is just imitating him.

He can take it though...because he's dead.

That was a great song.

Mercury had the best vocal talent, but that doesn't make him the best vocalist.

For example, no one has range like Mariah, but that doesn't make her the best singer.

The test is how how much do the vocals help make the songs better.

3) Axl Rose (Yep, I said it.)

Axl is good, but he isn't even the best hair band vocalist. That honor, of course, belongs to Sebastian Bach.

Pretty much, though I love me some Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke as well they had the singing voices that could cut through everything like a hot knife through butter, pretty much technical perfection

Layne Staley had an incredible voice. Not sure I'd put him at the top (that's a tough question) but his singing has always impressed the hell out of me.
