Acid for the Children: A Memoir LINK

quote:

Acid for the Children, Flea takes readers on a deeply personal and revealing tour of his formative years, spanning from Australia to the New York City suburbs to, finally, Los Angeles. Through hilarious anecdotes, poetical meditations, and occasional flights of fantasy, Flea deftly chronicles the experiences that forged him as an artist, a musician, and a young man. His dreamy, jazz-inflected prose makes the Los Angeles of the 1970s and 80s come to gritty, glorious life, including the potential for fun, danger, mayhem, or inspiration that lurked around every corner. It is here that young Flea, looking to escape a turbulent home, found family in a community of musicians, artists, and junkies who also lived on the fringe. He spent most of his time partying and committing petty crimes. But it was in music where he found a higher meaning, a place to channel his frustration, loneliness, and love. This left him open to the life-changing moment when he and his best friends, soul brothers, and partners-in-mischief came up with the idea to start their own band, which became the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I am a massive RHCP fan. Scar Tissue is one of my all time favorite memoirs.

Can't wait to hear Flea's story.

Thanks for the notice. I've been waiting for this one to come out for a while. Scar Tissue is probably one of my favorite books ever.

Did the pre-order on Amazon and got mine yesterday. Read nearly half of it last night. Very entertaining.

Are you trolling or something? Frusciante left for his own reasons...it had nothing to do with Flea. Him and Flea are still friends.

Good to hear the book is good. I get mine today.

Yeah, he and Flea were always tighter than the rest. Flea helped him get clean and rejoin the band. Flea has played on many of John's solo albums. If Flea affected John's decision to leave at all, it was almost certainly just supporting John to do what he wants to do.

Kiedis is the one that always seemed to have trouble coexisting with John.

I agree. John is an interesting fellow. I don't believe John was pushed away by Flea.

I have this on hold at the LP library lol. Hopefully I'll get my hands on it next week.

It's pretty crazy how underrated Frusciante is despite being in RHCP.

That's certainly a valid opinion. He's certainly in consideration for my top 5, and I'm not even much of a RHCP fan.

Same here. John may be one of my favorite musicians ever. I love both his solo stuff and his contributions to RHCP.

I love his contributions to RHCP, but I can only handle so much Anthony.

I can understand that. He can be polarizing.

Got the book in and am about 25 pages in. It’s really good so far and well written. Very short chapters, like 1-2 pages.
