All 8 venues will have back lined equipment already set up with the respective opening bands already there.

The lips will use most of the same equipment already setup and sound checked.

It's actually not going to be that big of a logistical nightmare.

I've heard they will play like 6 songs in each city

BR show doors open at 12:46 PM and lips go on at 2:45PM

You can best believe that I will be online and trying to buy tix as soon as they go on sale. I don't care what time of day they play. It's been a year since I last saw them, and I had to pass up 2 chances to see them this year already.

Ok so 3 hrs max at each city/destination?? This seems impossible. They could only perform at an hour max. Would be incredible, if this is accomplished.

Cool idea, and probably the biggest act to play the Varsity in a while, but not interested. I've seen the Lips at numerous festivals and their shows are unimpressive. Wayne Cohen thinks he is the second coming of Jah. Dude's ego is way too big. Plus they are such a gimmick band, doing shite like this. I don't know, the Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi were good albums but other than that I'm not a fan of the Flaming Lips.

Flaming Lips are from my home state and as much as I hate to say it this is pretty much spot on. Their albums are good with a couple of great ones under their belt. Their lives shows are meh, IMO. More of a visual experience than a musical one. I've seen them at least 5 times over the last 15 years. I just never walk out with a feeling that I had seen anything special. I really want to like them since they represent my home, but I just can't.

Their country/bluegrass soundtrack to the documentary Okie Noodling is really cool though.

I agree with this. I saw them at hangout last year and thought they were extremely boring. One of the worst shows i caught all weekend. Erykah badu is pretty pissed off at wayne at the moment. They did a video together and he basically lied to her about his intentions.

I think you mean Wayne "Coyne"...

They are all easily the most unpretentious group of famous musicians I've ever had the luck to meet.

I agree that they come up with a lot of gimmicks (i.e. flash drive of music hidden inside a gummy skull), but it's what they do to stay interested and interesting. They have never been about the modern band concept of write/record/tour/repeat. The Lips have never asked the question, "Why would you do this?" They are the type of band that asks "Why would we not?"... Why would we not do interesting shows? Why would we not figure out ways to make a stage show more interesting for the fans? Why would we not put a flash drive of music inside a giant gummy skull? Why would we not make a 4 disc album where all 4 albums must be played simultaneously? Etc...

I personally applaud them for railing against the monotony they find can be a part of being in a band, and for them finding ways to keep it fun and relevant. As long as they tour, I'll still show up.

Hangout is not a good venue for them to play at. First off, If they are playing outdoors, it needs to be after sundown. Second, they needed a better sound setup at the venue for that show (Hangout may have fixed that for this year, but I didn't go). Third, the breeze coming off the water wreaked havoc with their balloons and confetti.

The Flaming Lips have been one of my favorite bands to see live, since the first time I saw them, and I've been a fan of their music since the 90's... That being said, I know for a fact that it is not for everybody.

Soooo much better than at a festival... I have a hunch that this live show is going to be unlike any of their others, and will be stripped down to bare minimums. I'm happy I don't work on Thursdays, allowing me to make this show.

Show is going to be rad. Rumor is they are playing 4-6 songs and then heading out.

They didn't, pissed me off. That secondary main stage sucks arse. Why they don't use a row of secondary speakers is beyond me. I was sitting way in the back for their set and could barely hear it.

They could be playing one song, and the fact that they are playing in BR on my day off would still get me out to see them. It is going to be a helluva lot of fun. I'm guessing you'll be there too?

I wasn't going to go b/c I've seen the three times this year alone and the FL once.

However, for 20, I'm so there. I'll probably try to hit the NOLA show as well.

You would think they'd learn. Last year I couldn't hear Primus, Flaming Lips, or the Black Keys (plus others)... Pissed me off royally. I guess I may be getting old because I prefer to listen to the music from a space further back from the stage; I'm completely over having tons of sweaty wooks bumping up against me in a sea of stink.

I definitely want to, especially because I want to see Grimes play, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to... Baton Rouge for certain though.

True story.
