Fender CS Fat 60’s PUPS.

Any thoughts?
I did my obligatory YouTube sound tests. Alnico 2 magnets instead of 5. They sounded different but both great on the audio samples.
Just wondering if anyone (Fret lol) has firsthand use of them? They didn’t seem to take off like the 50’s. But there is a definite 50’s bias. Perhaps justified.
Any known issues with that set?

You should have bought those Vintera 50s modified while they were 60 bucks a set, but you can still get them for $120.00 a set.

I got more toys though.
Obsidian switch. Solderless. With a blend knob.
Still need to solder to ground and Jack. I think. But I’ve done that before.
I am replacing MIM fender 50s style from 2009. I think they are what the Cintera stuff replaced. I may be wrong. Vinteras may be American fender? Gun to my head I think they are MIM though.

They are, but they have a great tone IMO, they use alnico 5 mags and I think they are a pretty good upgrade from the MIM player strat pickups.

You can't pick wrong in the A5 vs A2 debate, but you can pick a profile that better suits your tastes and needs.
A5 is the magnet alloy of choice for Fender since the mid 50s. A5 has an inherently scooped midrange. That scoop is gorgeous, particularly for wound strings, but it's also why the plain strings can sound thin and brittle, specifically on the bridge pickup and/or with gain.
A2 is the magnet alloy of choice for Gibson humbuckers and P-90s. A2 has a more flatline EQ compared to A5. A2 makes plain strings sound fuller and more musical, specifically on the bridge pickup, but they can make the wound strings sound somewhat anemic in comparison to A/B'ing with A5.
If you can't decide between the two, or if you want a "best of both worlds," seek out hybrid magnet pickups that use A5 rods on the wound strings and A2 rods on the plain strings. There's a pickup company/winder on this forum whose standard fare is A5/A2 hybrid mag singles for Strat and Tele, but his name escapes me.

I do really like the sound of those vintera 50s modified strat PUs though, and it's hard to imagine a better tone for that price.
That Marchand guy nails that Dicky Betts style, better tone though.

Heard the rumor.
Hence the Obsidian. Now I can plug in anything. I can save some pesos and throw them your way. I should. I have already abused you for free advice for 5-10 years now.
Would make sense you are compensated for your “consults”.
I always wanted to try boutique PUPs. Cool factor to actually talk to the guy from time to time. It’s like we all know a less famous Seymour Duncan from the motherland. Our own Seymour Duhon if you will. Or pick a Cajun name that starts with D that you prefer.

Subscribed to that channel.
That’s your company channel right Fret. Not the dude playing?

I'll go by Seymour Knockers. And the bigger the better.
Yep, that's my YouTube channel. All kinds of good stuff there to give your wallet bad ideas. But you deserve a splurge at some point.

Had them in my Custom Shop Strat and regretfully sold them. They sounded amazing. These were the hand wound Josefina pickups, so I don't know how different they are to the ones you can buy online, but they sounded good. I a huge fan of Klein Pickups for Strat style guitars. Their Epic series is second to none.

With the obsidian switching i think I will have GAS with a sub category of pick ups.
A “Fret Set” eventually and a rotating set of good non boutique.
All that shite to NOT play live ever. Lol
