I've tried to give it a listen. I just cannot get into it. I am awaiting their last chance to recapture the Dreamtime/Love sound.

That's long gone. I think Ceremony was the attempt to somewhat go back to that imagery but fell short in everything else, mainly the music.
If Beyond Good and Evil would have been after Sonic Temple there may have been a chance for them being relevant well into the 90's.

"Coming Down (Drug Tongue)" was an attempt for the Cult to become like so many other post grunge bands. It is a great song, but went unnoticed because it sounded like too much of everything else.
To recapture their old sound, Billy needs to be a focal point and the bass player needs to hammer that hard rhythm like Jamie Stewart once did. The songs need to go into a cross of shoegaze and hard rock.

They really left that love sound after love. Ceremony was an overproduced mess. Billy has said that if he could have a mulligan, that would be it. In agreement that Born Into This is not quality at all and Beyond Good and Evil would have been terrific after Sonic Temple. I also think that they have stayed relevent to a point. My point is that they still put out original music when others from their timeframe have stopped. I would say maybe not relevent but well respected. Today's line up is very good and I hope the songwriting on the new album compliments it. Would like to see them get more of a nod from the RRHOF. Of course, that place just makes me want to

I've got the Sessions stack CDawg has, and another Rare/Remixes disc, and back in their prime, had all the 12 inch vinyl remixes that make up a huge chunk of those boxed sets.
And as much as I still love the Cult, the last 30 years has brought so much good music online to listen to, that I just don't have the time for 10+ minute Howling Remixes, varying Edie acoustic versions,etc..
Will always love The Cult, but time has made some of their sound very monotonous/repetitious circling/cycling song matter. Much more enjoy hearing them ala carte on 80s mixes today, than former whole Cult disc listening.
And as much as I still love the Cult, the last 30 years has brought so much good music online to listen to, that I just don't have the time for 10+ minute Howling Remixes, varying Edie acoustic versions,etc..

Agree 100 percent. The band sounds like they're very regretful that they did it, not only due to the lawsuit...but also due to the horrific songs picked out. Billy and Ian hated each other at that point. "White" was the only good song to come from it. It was almost a sequel to "Brother Wolf Sister Moon" -- the weakest track by far on the LOVE album.

This is my 4th favorite Cult album. I agree and I think if that exact same album come out in '93, The Cult would have been a lot like ACDDC after Scott's death. They would have found a whole new fan-base and not disappointed the LOVE/Dreamtime folks. I thought "Rise" and "The Witch" were good tracks no matter which band did them.

The Cult should have put out PEACE and then combined the great songs from Electric with the 3-4 good ones from Sonic Temple. What an album that would have been.
I cannot stand to see/hear their Brixton Academy performance from '87 after Electric. They look like posers and Ian sounds like a coked-up awful, awful mess -- especially the way he sang "Nirvana" in the opening. His voice from '86 to '93 was just lousy. The video for "Lil Devil", as much as I liked that song and album, looks like they're pretending to be Guns N Roses when they should have stopped and realized that other bands were actually pretending to be The Cult.

For the latter part of your statement, I could care less. The RRFOF has no credibility. I have been to the museum several times in Cleveland and there is always an exhibit for nonsense...although I did see The Clash and The Doors exhibits in 2007.
I do not think they'll get in because their lineup has never stayed consistent past 1991. Billy and Ian and that is it. Their original lineup and their 2nd lineup with Warner replacing Preston is their best...and combined, both of them lasted 5 years. In 2040, I could see The Cult getting in. Maybe.

These are the only reservations I had about buying the box set. The expanded Love cd (the red one) is cool and all, but I do not need 2 other versions of "She Sells Sanctuary" -- the first being the extended howling mix that is merely long, overextended, drawn out poop. I do love the B sides that were never released, but aside from "The Snake" and "Little Face", the 2nd disc does little for me.

I have not heard a song by them that just makes me say "WOW!" since 2001. I think they're very monotonous and the acoustic songs all sound the same...as if each one is a Native American prayer anthem which praises wolves and Cherokee grandmothers and tepees and thousand year old trees.
