Headed to Houston next Friday to see the Light. Saw them in 1981 in Baton Rouge..as a college freshman.
Anyone else headed that way??

I saw the Jeff Lynne’s ELO: Wembley or Bust concert documentary on Showtime last weekend and it was pretty amazing.

I was at that same concert for the TIME tour.
Just learned this interesting bit of trivia recently...the "Arabic" gentleman on ELO's Discovery album cover and sleeve...actor / comedian Brad Garrett.

One of the most potent and interesting bands of all time was reduced to gay and fat girl type stuff by then.
Pray Lynn remembers their beginnings.
Pivotal people are missing from the band you'll see.
Is Bev Bevan with him?

Take a breath man.
In '81 Lynne was chasing popular music and trying to find his way in the post-power-pop, post-disco era. His hits were sporadic but the music wasn't as terrible as you're insinuating. His gay/fat-girl era was Xanadu, so you're off by a few years.
He went on to be one of the most successful producers of the late 80's and early 90's. He replaced George Martin as the Beatles' producer so show some respect.
Lynne remembers their beginnings, which you'd have seen if you had watched any of his recent concerts that have been on TV.
Pivotal people are missing? It's Jeff Lynne's ELO. Richard Tandy was the only "original" member to tour with Lynne and he's out due to his health. Lynne hasn't toured with Roy Wood since Wood left after their fist ELO album and he hasn't played with Bev Bevan since Bev started his own ELO and was sued out of touring with Kaminski and Clark and Groucutt and the rest.
I saw Bevan's ELO at Hemingbough in the 90's. They sounded great but it wasn't the same without Lynne's voice. Jeff Lynne has been ELO since Roy Wood left at the start.
Lynne has a phenomenal small orchestra with him, plays the majority of the early hits, and usually plays a tribute to Lennon/Beatles and Wiburys/Harrison/Petty/Orbison.
If you think that any ELO fan will leave this show disappointed, you're on crack.

Yes, it was! Thoroughly enjoyed!

I'm pretty sure that Lynne will do his best to make a live performance sound like a studio album

YES INDEED!!
The concert was FANTASTIC. Jeff Lynne was spot on with his playing and singing and his current band are a collection of consummate musicians!! The string section was damn near PERFECT!!!
