Educate me on quality in ear wireless headphones

I have Beats Solo and Sony 1000XM3 noise canceling headphones. Do noise canceling in ear headphones have sound quality that comes close to over the ear headphones? My experience with in ear headphones is pretty much limited to the headphones that come with Apple products or cheapos.
