The music/songs/stories of the Grateful Dead has an effect on me that is hard to describe. I discovered them while grieving the loss of my mother and it really seemed to help the pain. Been on the bus ever since.

When I was young my grandparents used to drag the whole family to sing-a-longs at a resort in Wisconsin and they'd sing stuff like "Let Me Call You Sweetheart" with some old gal banging it out on a piano on a circular stage in the center of the room. Even as a pre-teen you could tell it was corny as hell, but the exposure to their kind of music (and my dad's country) expanded my palate to where I can appreciate / love it all.
