Wow. Fantastic (very long, those easily distracted by shiny things need not bother) writeup of how the music business works today. Especially damning of Google. If you are one of the people actually believing that file sharing helps artists, read & learn. It's another excellent example of following the money.

Long read but very thorough in his assessment. I agree his point about the tech companies but he was also a product of the music industry's "bubble" of the 90's. This was very similar to the billy corgan interview that was posted but I like this read better.

I think it's a not-so-well-kept secret in the music industry that the 'big acts' of today are generally well-financed bands backed by investors that don't necessarily expect a return. It's like the benefactor model. It's unfortunate. I'm shocked at how the tech companies get away with what they get away with. It's theft: pure and simple.
