To answer your first question, Athens is not suburb of Atlanta. Lots of farmland between Atlanta and Athens. Most of the metro-ATL stretches North-Northwest, South, and East of the city.
In response to your question/supposition on the Georgia Theater, it will be an excellent venue, as will Terminal West. I'm very excited about both. Should be fun.
