I assume he means that people think Harry Nilsson’s version is the original since it’s much more famous.

This version of “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” is the definitive version. BUT, Gladys Knight and the Pips released their version first! I prefer their version. Gladys wasn’t on speaking terms with Marvin for awhile after he covered her. But here’s the twist…the Miracles did the original version! It wasn’t released until AFTER Marvin and Gladys did theirs.
