Can someone help me compile a list of songs in this genre. For example, I am looking for similar songs to:
Jonathan Wilson - Desert Raven
America - Sister Golden Hair
America - Ventura Highway

I don't really classify Jonathan Wilson as "California desert rock." He's more Nashville than Cali.
That makes me think more of stuff like Kyuss and QOTSA, Brant Bjork type stuff.
Desert Sessions - Girl Boy Tom
I'm trying to think of some bands that match more the style of Gentle Spirit or America.

I actually really enjoy Desert Rose. That entire album is quite solid.

Really? He's based out of Laurel Canyon.
Thanks for the recommendation. Feel free to fire off more.

Laurel Canyon and "Desert Rock" are pretty different.
Laurel Canyon is like a CSNY vibe. Dawes (on their album North Hills) are considered inheritors of the Laurel Canyon sounds. Jenny Lewis is also associated with modern Laurel Canyon music.
Desert Rock is usually associated with stoner metal bands like Kyuss, QOTSA and others. If you're interested in that, check out the documentary "Such Hawks, Such Hounds."

He moved there well into his career. He's from North Carolina.
ETA - I'm not busting your balls. I just think most suggestions for "desert rock" is going to get you Brant Bjork/Chris Goss type suggestions more than Jonathan Wilson.
That said, you should check out Shooter Jennings/Hierophant - Black Ribbons. Jonathan Wilson played guitar on it.
