Listened to it yesterday. It has to be one of, if not the greatest rock song that tells the story.

Both songs were built for opposite purposes. Rock and Roll Band, was built for showing off singing and harmonies. Smokin, was built for some instrumental solos/jamming.

Of the 2, I like Rock And Roll Band, better.

It's amazing how far ahead of his time Tom Scholz was with his sound.

There was nothing like it when it debuted in 1976 and he had been working on them for 5 years.

When that came out, I would cruise around the boat harbor in Decatur, Alabama on weekend nights with that 8 track blasting on my spark-o-matic.

Bad Company's Shooting Star is a hell of a lot more accurate.

Somewhat ironically, Boston wasn't "just another band out of Boston" - it was built around Scholz's novel new guitar sound and they had a record contract before they even had all the band spots filled.

But, it is a great song, I'll grant you that.

I thought Smokin' was, by far, the worst song (a scar) on that eponymous debut. As the years go by, I still think it's the worst song, but I like it.

That is a monster debut album. Boston had such a weird career. They were weird dudes, Scholz and Delp especially.

Well, That was such a huge debut, what do you do after that? You make Don't Look Back, unfortunately though, they kept lookin back.

Taking the lyrics away... the music itself is great

I’ve always loved Boston’s sound

They had a huge falling out with the record company, which led to CBS suing them for $60m. Now, back in the day, $60m was real money.

And that sort of put them in a time warp for the rest of the way.

But, my point stands - Boston was a group of weird dudes, even for a rock band, Scholz and Delp (RIP) particularly.
