There are so few guys out there whose drums add to a song. They can sure as hell screw them up. Needless fills and splashes and shite. Fool In The Rain is another awesome song. Bonham does all in the song. He lays back and later over powers the song.
I always enjoy Hot Legs by Rod Stewart. I think Carmine Appice is playing on this song. Not very flashy. Just beating the shite out of them. But never over the vocal. Just an example of balance.

I hesitate to say this is more important than #1, but it can make a world of difference. Bonham did a great job of it. Lars Ulrich did it well for a long time as well. He walked that "complementing the guitars and melody / overplaying" line better than most.
