It really was. Discovered so many bands for the first time there, like Clutch, that I still listen and go to shows to today.

That’s the worst lineup they’ve ever had.
I can’t say I blame them. I’d think it’s pretty hard to do a festival nowadays where people show up because there’s been a big shift in the industry
The industry is collapsing in on itself because there’s no platform anymore. Used to be everyone had to listen to music unless you were a “drive in silence” type which I think is probably still frowned upon. Like yeah there was talk radio but people would switch during commercials so everyone was exposed to whatever music the industry was pushing eventually. Nowadays a big segment of that is gone due to podcasts and the music industry’s influence can be avoided altogether.
Due to diminishing returns on investment the industry has put everything behind a few names like Taylor swift, Morgan wallen, post Malone etc. also rap and electronic music died (finally) and fans of that music that went to festivals on their parents dime 10 years ago have now been cut off and are pushing 30 still working at the restaurant and can’t afford tickets
So basically you could get one of the big names and rely on that as a draw with smaller bands as a filler or you could get a bunch of filler together and try to make a festival out of that. Theres really no way to win which is why so many of these festivals are going under
But the biggest problem is music sucks nowadays and if you get bands from 40 years ago that were good the fans don’t want to go to a festival

Can someone explain Hozier to me? He’s a headliner at every big festival and have only heard 2 songs of his ever
His music puts me to sleep. How is he a headliner?

This lineup isn't very good, but as stated earlier, Vampire Weekend and Queens of the Stone Age back to back would be cool.
It is a shame how shitty the music lineups at these festivals are now compared to 10-20 years ago.
