Bitter Southerner Top 25 Southern Albums

I always like this list because the narrow focus on music from the South generates artists that don't appear on every other stinking year end list.
Full article here.
25. Future: “Dirty Sprite 2”
24. Ruby Amanfu: “Standing Still”
23. Sam Gleaves: “Ain’t We Brothers”
22. Ashley Monroe: “The Blade”
21. Jon Latham: “Real Bad News”
20. Lilly Hiatt: “Royal Blue”
19. Iris Dement: “The Trackless Woods”
18. Bryson Tiller: “T R A P S O U L”
17. Raury: “All We Need”
16. Leo “Bud” Welch: “I Don’t Prefer No Blues”
15. Algiers: “Algiers”
14. Jimbo Mathus: “Blue Healer”
13. Rhiannon Giddens: “Tomorrow Is My Turn”
12. James McMurtry: “Complicated Game”
11. Deerhunter: “Fading Frontier”
10. Natalie Prass: “Natalie Prass”
09. Kacey Musgraves: “Pageant Material”
08. Jason Isbell: “Something More Than Free”
07. Scotty ATL “The Cooligan”
06. Torres: “Sprinter”
05. Chris Stapleton: “Traveller”
04. John Moreland: “High on Tulsa Heat”
03. Andrew Bryant: “This Is the Life”
02. Leon Bridges: “Coming Home”
01. Alabama Shakes: “Sound & Color”
Random thoughts:
I'm thrilled to see Andrew Bryant from the Water Liars ranked so high. Ditto on John Moreland. I've had the pleasure of seeing both of these guys live several times over the last couple of years.
Jon Latham will be making his way into my rotation. I've never heard of this guy, and I'm really digging this album. I'd not heard Scotty ATL before. That has now been remedied. Good.
I didn't even realize that Iris Dement put out a new album this year. I guess I don't follow certain genres like I used to. There was a time when we'd travel 100 miles to see her in concert and did quite a few times.
From the writeup, I'm looking forward to listening to the Torres album. Not sure why it hadn't crossed my radar before.

Lots of high quality music on there if you are looking to find a new album for your rotation.

That's a solid list right there

I need to set up a spotify playlist with those. I've only heard a few of them.

That Leon Bridges record is extremely overrated, IMO.

For me, it has some standout singles. Not crazy about the album as a whole.

agreed. but a lot of times these lists just repeat each other and it becomes an echo chamber.

Seen the Roll Call thread... and wasn't sure what genre this was. Have their most recent album on and its not bad... ad I am anti-country

I don't care for much of lucero's newest music.
i like "that much further west" and "tennessee" as those two were my favorites from them. TMFW has some good rock and roll songs on it... almost indie rock?
only one
tonight ain't gonna be good

If you follow the link to the original article, you can read writeups of them all and probably get a pretty good impression. Sorry I didn't include genre. I thought I was being pretty nice in actually transcribing their list into a list for discussion instead of just posting up a link.
I actually had to type the list out while looking at the article.
That's one of my pet peeves from listmakers, though. Not just giving us a text list at the end. Similar to festival lineups not just giving a text list.

Not in the slightest, and I love Leon Bridges.
