The name alone is all it takes for me to not give him credit, deserved or not. Now if he were to team up with Stephen Skins and Kenny Keys I might change my mind...

He’s a great player with a great story. He also has that whole. “I grew up playing in metal bands and listening to metal music while also playing roots music” thing that gives him a level of multi-genre authenticity that I think appeals to a lot of people.

And the biggest issue for people trying c to get into him is that YouTube is the way… not any music streaming service.

No doubt he's talented.. but I'm with you.. After about a minute of it, that's all I need to move on.. Good for him though.. glad he's doing well and has an audience that loves it!

Same boat for me. I'll listen for a little bit, be amazed at his skills, enjoy the playing and then get tired of it soon after.

I don’t understand the hype either. Music sucks. Stage presence sucks. Name sucks

I like him for the same reason that I like Wynton Marsalis, Jeff Beck, Yo Yo Ma and Alison Krauss... because he is one of the best to ever exist with his particular instrument.

I don't like bluegrass but Billy playing electric is great. YouTube the Grateful Mahalo shows from a few years back. Incredible stuff

I’ve seen him a few times. He’s tapping into that Americana bluegrass vibe mixed with space jazz and improvisation that the Grateful Dead were famous for. He’s not the first to do it but he’s currently the hot artist in those circles.
If you aren’t a fan of bluegrass then it’s obviously not going to be your thing

As a guitar player I knew he was really good even though "bluegrass" was not something I listened too. I went to see my first live show 2 years and I was stunned how good his show was. About half way through my first show I said to myself this is as close as I ever get to hearing prime Jerry Garcia live. BMFS is magic on the stage.

He was even better this year live and seems to be getting better if that's even possible. Also, the band is incredibly tight too. This is the highlight of that run. How is this not fun.

U have to see him live to understand. Being high as a football bat doesn't hurt.
