Behind the Track: “Loser” by Beck

Pretty cool video and let me add that his Guero album is one of the greatest sonic masterpieces there is. And by that, I mean the sounds he introduces to songs from the subtle to the obvious is amazing.

So ... the whole track was written by the Geto Boys producer, Beck just did the vocals/lyrics and slide guitar.

While it's a cool story, I'm kind of disappointed.

That song is nothing without the lyrics / melody that he created. How is that any different than other bands who collaborate? I also think there is more that they didn't fit into an 8 minute video.

My point is that I always thought of him as this weird independent indie-rock crossover into electronic sort of genius, which he is, but I always just assumed he engineered everything as a young prodigy and visionary. I still love Beck, but it's like finding out George Martin was actually farming out his scores to another composer. I always thought Beck had made Loser in his bedroom by himself like a mad scientist.

I still have this shite happen to me today. It's crazy when you find out that you've been singing the wrong lyrics for over 30 years.
