Book report:
Ellis was yet another homosexual insider at the Beatles management company. He was very much a background man, a lawyer who looked over contracts and performed similar duties. He did not like pop music & did not especially care for the Beatles, particularly John Lennon.
Ellis disputes the John-Brian rumors (as did Alistair Taylor).
I've posted before that these insider memoirs say little about other Apple insiders. Ellis is something of an exception to that, as he does go into a few paragraphs on Peter Brown. They apparently didn't like each other, though the veddy British Ellis is reluctant to say that outright. FWIW Ellis & Brown were at Brian's country home the day he died in London. They were to be guests at a rentboy party Brian never made it to.
This book is very light on Beatle music, heavier on Brian gossip, and VERY heavy on business details. If you're dying to know more about the Northern Songs stock deal, this is for you. If not, even the most maniacal Beatlemaniac can skip it w/a clear conscience.

It is definitely true that you have to piece the cast of characters together, as they all love to be their own center of attention.

I'm reading Derek Taylor's book now.
I still go back to how random and spotty the mentions of Neil are by EVERYONE. It's like you'll almost forget he exists, and then out of nowhere he'll be the central figure in diffusing a major incident.
The A. Taylor book had an awesome anecdote when they were on the quixotic Greek private island adventure. I guess really late one night it was just Taylor, Mal, John and George. George played some Indian shite on his ukelele and all the guys did the chants in the moonlight. Just imagine.

They're really bad at making Ringo look like Ringo.

Never seen this pic before

This can't be an officially released pic. No way Ringo would have approved it.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon on "The Tonight Show”, May 15, 1968.

The Derek Taylor book is interesting. All the stuff with the Byrds is weird. You get a real sense of how everyone was clamoring to be the "American Beatles". Paul Revere and the Raiders thought they were it!
