I thought this was one of the coolest moves I'd seen on TD until I read this...
J/K I love it!
Also love the philosophy of keeping old records moving around, and thanks for all of your contributions to this board

I have some vinyls(new purchases) that are kind of warped. One all them the needle skips on the first couple of tracks. I'd there anyway to flatten the vinyl back out?

If you bought them new, return them (if they were brand new records).
There are devices made to take warps out (record flatteners), but they are crazy expensive (over $2000), so you have to have a crapload of warped records or something very rare, valuable, or personal to warrant this.
There is an "oven solution" you can find on the interwebs, but I would highly recommend that you not do this--for obvious reasons. (It is low temperature baking, 200° over a long time). Lots of time and room for error to burn the house down!
Just send them back to where you bought them from--no new record should have warps that cause the tonearm to mistrack, especially when you get 2 songs into the side.
Let us know what you do.
If all else fails, we do have a guy in our audio group that has the LP flattener which I do have access to--let me know...

I am trying to conjure up exactly what that sounds like...I'm coming up empty!

Yeah the cover really caught my eye.
Musically, think Eddy Grant "Electric Avenue." Very funky. It should be good for a party. I find when people are trying to have fun they don't appreciate my King Crimson and Gentle Giant records for some reason.

Does anybody have any experience with the Kanto Yu2 or Audioengine A2 speakers?
eta: Or the JBL pebbles? My friend recommended them as really good cheap speakers but he wasn't sure if they were turntable friendly.

There is no such thing as "turntable friendly speakers"--speakers don't interact with turntables, they interact with amplifiers.
Turntables are just another source component that plug into an amplifier (or receiver).
Please don't take audio advice from this friend again, as his comment is one of the silliest things I have heard in audio in a while!

...And if you are looking for powered speakers, AudioEngine makes decent stuff.
What are you trying to achieve and what is you budget?

To be fair, I used that phrase not him .. He just wasn't sure if they were usb only or not.
I'm just trying to put together my first turntable set up for my small apartment. Budget wise, I'd say 250 or below would probably be my best bet for now until I get my teeth deeper into this.
eta: Also, I'm trying to find some with the white or red color options for my ocd. I can DWI if not though.

No just the speakers.
Posted on 1/10/16 at 10:57 pm to UMRealist
Do the speakers need to be powered, or are you connecting them to an amp (receiver)?
Posted on 1/11/16 at 11:06 am to Marco Esquandolas
They don't have to be powered but I don't have a receiver. At least not yet.

Hey Marco, I might have asked this before, but do you know a good source for turntable dustcovers? I've found a couple that seem pretty good, but just wanted to get your input.

Ginko makes some that go over the entire table and rest on the shelf, not the plinth. They will also custom make one to fit your table.
