One more thing...and I realize it isn’t inexpensive, but...

If you decide you want to take the full plunge into getting the most out of records, the entry level Lyra Delos is a monster. I don’t know of any cart that comes close for the money. It isn’t cheap at $2000 (can be had for $1700 with a little haggling), but you will hear every record like you have never heard them before. They are in a different league. Each one is hand built by only 2 Japanese men (that’s why they are usually back ordered).

It’s like going from a Maxima or Camry to getting behind the wheel of an M3 Bimmer...every aspect gets cleaner, deeper, faster, wider, more detailed, and precise.

When I jumped to Lyra 8 years ago, that was my “Holy crap—I didn’t realize vinyl could be THIS good” moment...and I was still using a Black Cube at the time.

I found myself listening to Records about 90% of the time after getting a Lyra. I since jumped up their line a couple times—their carts are that good.

Started off my morning with Van Morrison "Astral Weeks." (180 gram re-issue clear vinyl)

We goin jazz the rest of the day. Nothing but stone cold classics, old and newish.

[/img]

Lyman Woodard Organization "Saturday Night Special" Wax Poetics Re-Issue

[/img]

posted twice as not to leave out the rolled up twenty dollar bill. That would be a disservice to one of the GOAT record covers.

[/img]

Duke Ellington "Greatest Hits" My favorite jazz artist from the swing era. Alot of these tracks have elements of cool jazz making them more palatable than alot of swing/big band.

[/img]

Placebo "Ball of Eyes" If youre not familiar with Marc Moulin then I would suggest looking him up. Known by hip hop producers and jazz heads alike, dude was composing music in the 70's that still holds its own in the post modern world. Another sample whore.

[/img]

[/img]

Cinematic Orchestra "The Man With The Movie Camera"
This record made a ton of noise at the beginning of the century. Way before J Swinscoe was composing heart tuggers for "House." Dynamic, sultry, electronic (at moments) and still absolute jazz. "Channel One Suite" is a legendary track.

Cinematic Orchestra "The Man With The Movie Camera." Another offering from C O, this is a re imagined score for the seminal silent Russian film, "The Man With The Movie Camera." (highly recommended and free on the tube with both soundtracks).

I do...noticed it right away...Simaudio Evolution and a VPI table.

I bought my Simaudio Evolution CD player just before they started going off the charts with pricing.

10 years ago, the Evolution M7 mono blocs were 12k a pair...their current iteration are now $42k—same chassis, and some minor changes on the inside. Their reference 888w monos are $120k!

Their Evolution line has climbed into the audio “elite” sphere.

...but, I gotta say, the CD player is solid—almost 50 lbs.

You seem to post a lot of jazz. Just wanted to take a minute and recommend the ever living frick out of Cinematic Orchestra "Motion." The melding of post modern aesthetics with various forms of jazz is unlike anything Ive ever heard. (Tho Ive only listened to drop of water in the sea of jazz). I can almost guarantee you that you havent heard anything like it.

That Ascenseur pour l'échafaud PM was listening to a couple of weeks ago is one of the best things Miles Davis ever put out, if you ask me. I assume it is the same 3 disc 10" LP from Holland that I have?

Yeah I’ve been getting into a lot of jazz over the past couple of years. I have a very narrow window of the kind of jazz I like, typically slow/sad/ballad type of jazz, but there are exceptions. I will definitely give that Cinematic Orchestra album a listen sometime this weekend. Thanks for the rec.
