Are the pickups in a Seagull Performer much better than a Taylor 214ce?

I've played a Seagull Performer for about 10 years or so. Recently I purchased a Taylor 214 because it has a little better tone. I'm just a singer that plays some guitar so I'm not as savvy about this subject as many would be.

Sunday was the first time I used the Taylor in a band rehearsal, and I discovered that you have to crank the guitar and/or the pa channel I'm playing through much more so than with the Seagull.

Do any of you know if this is typical? Does a Taylor 214 have weak pickups, or is the Seagull known for projecting better than most guitars and I just didn't know?

I guess I should note the seagull has quantum electronics. I don't know about the Taylor but I think it's a 2013 model and actually it's a 214ce FLTD if that matters.

Most acoustic pickup systems' output are dictated by their preamps. That's what the 9V battery drives in acoustics with a battery.

You sure you didn't have a fizzling battery in the Taylor? If you are feeding it weak DCV, you will lose volume and headroom. At least that's what I notice with most systems with a weak battery.

9V driven acoustic electric tips ...

Always use a fresh battery.

Always use a Duracell or an Energizer, avoid the cheap generic bulk packs if you can.

And ALWAYS unplug your guitar when not in use. It is burning battery EVERY SECOND it is plugged in. It's the difference in a battery lasting months versus days.

I was hoping you'd see this and respond.

I did actually suggest to my band mates that it might be the battery but I didn't change it yet. I will do that today. Hopefully that is the problem because otherwise I like the guitar ok, though I'm not sure it's better than the Seagull.

Thank you very much.

I changed the battery for what I know is a new one and same difference. The Seagull just projects more than the Taylor. A poster on another board said the Seagull is known for projecting really well. In addition to the treble, bass, and volume knob there is the mic transducer control knob that is pretty sensitive and adds volume.

I was going to sell one of the guitars, but now i think I'll just keep them both. The Taylor has a little better tone and is a little easier to finger, but the Seagull is obviously a good guitar in that price range, which for what I need, is good enough.

Thanks again for the help.
