Specifically Vocal or Progressive or Uplifting Trance. Been into it since it's inception and into electronic music since the early 90s. Would love to swap some tune recommendations.

I started an electronic music post last month that didn't go anywhere. I don't know anything about trance but would be interested in any recommendations to see if it's something I would be into.

I'm into electronic music but not sure I understand the subgenres. I started listening to the disco biscuits 20 years ago which started my journey into electronic music. Jamtronica led me to Aphex Twin and Pretty Lights, which led me to LCD Soundsystem, FSOL, Booka Shade. A few years ago I stumbled into the world of Bonobo and I'm not sure I will ever be able to leave.

Also, I'm just starting to listen to Bonobo's "similar artists" - Emancipator, Jon Hopkins, Nujabes, Odesza, The Cinematic Orchestra, Thievery Corporation, Four Tet, Boards of Canada.

Again, not sure what subgenres these DJs are in but interested to get some recommendations.

I'm not sure if I actually know what "Trance" or "Uplifting Trance" is, but I do like a wide variety of music that is performed well. That includes everything from metal (some) to string quartets.

An instrumental published this week is very interesting, what I might call "atmosphere" music. On listening to it several times, I'm beginning to love it. You have to have the patience to listen to the entire thing, and it is 18 minutes. The video just shows the percussionist improvising, so it is not visually interesting unless you are a drummer I guess. The best experience is just start it up and walk away and listen, or better yet headphones and closed eyes in a comfy spot. It does start quietly with piano, but develops into nice guitar, sax, and trumpet improvisations.

Other simply wonderful original and "uplifting" instrumentals on her channel:

Dejame Una Palabra

And this could be a soundtrack for a Lord of the Rings sequel, with minimal vocals, in Elvish:

What is uplifting trance. Below is a good write-up on it though even today I can't distinguish uplifting from progressive trance, though progressive trance has build-up within the tune and then a subtle breakdown.

quote:

What is Uplifting Trance? This sub-genre of Trance has many aliases, including ones like emotional trance, epic trance, and even branching off into a sub-genre of its own called orchestral uplifting trance. However, what truly defines Uplifting Trance is the feeling that it gives you when you’re listening to it. The rush… The euphoria… The pure bliss that reaches your ears, brings a smile to your face, and spreads warmth into your heart.

I tend to define it as personally as EDM that has a smooth melody, soothing yet energetic.....sends you into a euphoria, a happy place, and in my case, without any drugs

For any "extended mixes", these are generally tunes that are 5-8 mins in length, you can expect the first min or two to be the intro or buildup then the middle 2-3 mins will be the main melody, the essence of the tune and last min or two to be the wrap up, also used to transition from one tune into another when DJs do a mix set. The "radio edits" are in the 3-4 min range and the intro and wrap up are minimal with focus being in the meat of the tune

Here are just a couple examples of uplifting/progressive trance tunes.

Hope y'all like it. Feedback always welcome

ETA: If you have Spotify, let me know. I have made couple of lists of my fav tunes, lists usually keep evolving, but then you can really try out a bunch of tunes to see if you like them

Dejame Una Palabra - PhantomMenace - I really liked all 3 of these but this one in particular. I don't know anything about Sina but I will check out a lot more of her stuff

The Dejame Una Palbra song had a few segments that peak similar to some of the bands that I listen to. The band the disco biscuits guided me get into eletronic music & I would use your description of uplifting music. Here is a link to an example of their music. These are just the jams (5-15 minute) segments in the middle of a song or between 2 songs. They are improvisations and not composed at all, so you have to be patient (similar to that 18 minute sina song you linked). This is what I think of when I hear trance music - although now I know I'm wrong :-)

The Best Biscuits Jams of 2018
Goose - Just Jams
Phish Jams Compilation: 2011-2015

This has led me down a rabbit hole that I don't think I was ready for this morning. I really didn't know there was so much stuff compiled like this on youtube. There are a lot of phish phans with a lot of time on their hands :-)

Bamboozles - Thanks for sharing these songs and I'm glad I now know what trance electronic music is. I really like the 2nd song Fallout

I don't think I can listen to this type of music straight for long stretches, but I think I hear some of these type songs in DJ mixes that I really like. Some of the DJs I listed above will splice some of these songs into 2-3 minute segments in between other mixes. This also reminds me of the raves that I attended in the 90s. There is no doubt that that scene is heavy influenced by trance.

A friend of mine got me into Sasha and Digweed. Northern Exposure 2 has a lot of trance - 2 favorite songs are Angel by Lost Tribe & Purple by Gus Gus

That track was composed and played by Andrés Marzzucco. I intend to search for more of his work, but have not yet. He asked Sina to provide the percussion track. She is a very good drummer (I think percussionist is more accurate) but also at times plays guitar, bass and piano. Her father was a professional musician and helps her produce some of her original stuff and a wide variety of excellent collaborations. The good thing about this is that his audio engineering is excellent, especially considering all the crappy audio that can be found on youtube.

Totally unrelated, here is an instrumental "beat" that I also enjoyed:
