Gonna see them at the Variety Playhouse on Feb 10, first time in Atlanta since 1990 I believe. Admittedly, my two favorite albums from them are when Fish was still in the band many years ago (Misplaced Childhood and Clutching At Straws), but they've had a few home runs with Hogarth too (esp. Marbles, amazing album IMO). I'm guessing they're mostly forgotten in the US, but are there any fans who post here?

Fan since '83 when I stumbled upon Script For A Jester's Tear at Leisure Landing(?) on LSU's campus. I admit, the cover got me. I'm with you, Misplaced and Clutching are amongst my favorite prog albums ever. Fish was an absolutely amazing lyricist, just beautiful in his phrasing of words, and Steve Rothery is criminally underrated as a guitarist. For me Hogarth really shines on Less Is More, an acoustic reworking of some earlier songs. It's amazing. Never seen them live. Hope they put on a great show!

If you haven't heard them already, check out Vigil In A Wilderness Of Mirrors, Internal Exile, and especially Sunsets On Empire, my three favorite Fish solo albums.

Less Is More is an enjoyable listen....wasn't even aware of it until it appeared on Amazon Prime, but I've enjoyed it since.

Fish has some great solo albums, but I'm not in the "no Fish, no Marillion" camp. They've released some great stuff with Hogarth. Plus, if we're being honest, Fish's voice has been toast for awhile...I'd downloaded his Misplaced Childhood 20th anniversary show awhile back, and the songs were so radically re-tuned to suit his voice, they lacked the warmth of the original versions IMO. Haven't heard it yet, but I can't imagine his 30th anniversary performance is any better, lol...he just can't hit the notes anymore, but bless him for some great music when he could

I'm seeing them at the Grenada in Dallas on 2/21. I'm going with my Father in Law who is very big into prog rock. I've probably seen Yes 5 times with him. Really don't know much about them.

I'd start with Misplaced Childhood and Clutching At Straws with original singer, Fish, and then move onto Seasons End, Marbles, and Brave with replacement singer Hogarth. Hogarth's era is more thoughtful, dreamy, and less proggy music, IMO, but still very good. There's so much awesome music however in between all those releases.

Yes, I've been a huge fan since the early 80's. I like all of the Fish stuff and most of the Hogarth stuff. The H stuff doesn't get as much time on the turntable tho.

I've been listening to F.E.A.R. and Happiness is the Road a bunch in the last year. Both albums are pretty good.

I've been trying to go to one of the Marillion weekends in Canada, but I'm always busy when they come. I'm stoked that they are coming to the states. I'm catching them in Dallas later this month. From what I can see of the setlists from last year, should be a great show.

This is a pic of the reissue Misplaced Childhood boxset I got from Racket records last year, signed by everyone but Fish:

This is my original copy of Script, hanging on the wall in my office. I replaced it with a UK pressing a while back.
The UK pressing sounds great:

You inspired me to pull out my Fish albums. Just put on Sunsets on Empire. Great album, haven't heard Brother 52 in years.

Internal Exile is next.

Yes. Probably my favorite Fish solo album. So good, and so upbeat for Fish.

Ditto. Made Again is one of my favorite live albums ever. Sucks that they never really made it big in the States.

In hindsight, I wonder if they would've been better off renaming the band after Hogarth replaced Fish. I mean, of course I still recognize them as Marillion and all, but I'm just talking from a career standpoint. Apart from Seasons End (which was pretty much completed before H came aboard), their music hardly resembles anything from the Fish era anyway.

Then again, while they seem to be struggling in the US, it looks like they're experiencing a rebirth elsewhere...I've noticed several of their overseas shows are sold out, so I'm happy to see that.

5 more days til showtime

Out of curiosity, why not? I enjoyed the show in Atlanta, but my lady friend was kinda meh about it, even though she enjoys their music when I play it at the house. She said she probably would've liked it more if they dropped one or two of the "epics", and played some more "economical" & up-tempo songs in their place. I suppose I get her point of view, since they did play a shitload of lengthy material, which might be a bit overwhelming for a first-timer. At Atlanta, if you take out "Kayleigh" and "Sugar Mice", the remainder of the show had an average song length of something like 13 minutes

Saw the Dallas show. I loved it. I'm a fan of a bunch of the Hogarth stuff that was played, including the stuff from FEAR.

But, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed singing along to Garden Party with everyone else in the venue at the end of the night. It made my night.

We didn't get Garden Party in Atlanta, but I wish we did. The live version of it is a beast

Was a little late in buying it, but my copy of the Misplaced Childhood 5.1 surround mix arrived in the mail yesterday. Definitely satisfied, and the Live at Utrecht '85 bonus discs are a sweet addition. Ready for the Brave 5.1 mix to arrive!

Garden Party was incredible when the whole audience yelled "I'm fricking" at the end. Never thought I'd see that one live in my lifetime. I'm pissed they didn't play Sugar Mice like they did in ATL, that's one of my favorites too.

I just ordered FEAR on vinyl. My next purchase is the Brave 5.1 mix. I'm sure its a killer.

If Brave 5.1 is anything like Misplaced Childhood 5.1, then I'll be a satisfied customer. Watched the Misplaced "making of" documentary last night on disc 5...it was nice seeing Uncle Fish in the same room with the other guys, cutting up with one another.
