This was my thought as well, glad to see it echoed in your post. Thanks!

quote:The story of Yairi guitars (Japan) supposedly goes the first one's he shipped over here for St Louis Music Co had all manner of problems due to heat and humidity. And so he solved the transport problem by going to laminate bodies. The difference being instead of two high quality veneers sandwiched between a cheap core. He built his own with the same type wood through out. I've read (but not sure if true) some are two layer and some three depending on if a K.Yairi or S.Yairi built guitar.
may seek rather than avoid
(all that to say)
I have three that are laminated and they all sound good. One of them is to me extra ordinary. And then two that are solid and they're also also great ... but being top shelf (master series) they should be. Reason I mentioned is they're all Yairi's and friends equally ask to play all of them. With the cheapest (a laminate) routinely being asked if it's for sale. Even my old music instructor a part time Nashville session musician asks when he see's me.
To me the bigger issues are shape/size of neck, dovetail joint vs. bolt on, type of bracing used on the top, silking (or medullary rays), and if it's hide glued. With the later being perhaps more of purest thing.

I recommend buying used, much more bang for your buck.
For instance, just in my area you could currently get a Taylor 410 or a Gibson J45 Studio for what the 214ce will cost you.

No problem buying used, in fact if I buy the 214 I'll buy the used one. I dont want to buy a used guitar sight unseen or without playing it.

I would assume if you're going to be gigging then you'd mostly be playing thru the pickup in which case I can't see how the wood difference would matter.
Taylors are naturally bright anyway so I don't think they lose as much in laminate form as a say a Martin.
As I said previously ITT, I had a Taylor 210 but I love the big bass sound of a Martin D28 and rarely play thru a pickup so it wasn't for me but for what you're going to be doing, it seems like it'd be great for you.

Due to Covid and finances does Guitar Center still have the same used guitar policy? I've bought twice from them sight unseen. Have it delivered to a store near you if possible. If there are problems, leave it there. They have a 45 day no questions return policy.
Or they did.
