I think some people dislike it, but I've never understood why. It was a new direction for Green Day, but they were older and it has some really solid songs.

I've seen people criticize it but never fully understood why.

The song and album were too damn preachy. I didn't like the music either.

I also haven't listened to it in about 15 years so maybe I'll put it on again and see if my perspective has changed.

Jesus of Suburbia is a great “story telling” song, if you will.

I think it was mainly just the one song, American Idiot. That song was by far the most overtly political.

I don't easily get put off by politics, and AI isn't my favorite track on the album either. I think that's a big reason I don't have that reaction.

It's a great album, esp by green day standards.

You have two of their best songs on it in Blvd of Broken Dreams and Wake me up When September ends.

They were pretty much done by 2004, but this album was a revival of their career.

I'm not hugely political and I don't care about that shite, but even the song American Idiot is more of a statement on today's America and social media than it was anti-right wing.

quote:

Don't wanna be an American idiot
Don't want a nation under the new media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-frick America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue

Well maybe I'm the fagg0t America
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody do the propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the alien nation
Where everything isn't meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We're not the ones who're meant to follow
For that's enough to argue

It was meant to be anti-Bush.
