What are some of your favorite acoustic versions of songs that were electric hits? Heard a version of a chick with two guitarist doing an acoustic take on "For Those About to Rock" and it got me wondering about some other solid versions.

BTW, I love the acoustic version of version of "Overkill"

I can't think of a single example where hard-turned-soft was an improvement, but I can think of many soft versions that were abortions. I just heard the beginning of the acoustic "Everlong" today and rushed to turn it off. It completely ruins the crushing energy of the original.

Whenever it goes the other way - e.g. metal bands remaking out-of-genre songs - it's almost always awesome. e.g. Seether's "Careless Whisper."

Best one I can think of is G'n R Lies version of "You're Crazy" (still pales compared to the Appetite version)

a-ha

It really has lyrics, not just a pop ditty with an interesting video.

Cover by Mikalyn Hay. Again, the lyrics are more meaningful when not like a dance tune.

This. All of them are fantastic. Skin and Bones version is my favorite. Listen to the crowd.

Heart- Alone Live 2002

I love this version, just Ann's voice with Nancy on acoustic guitar, light piano in the background.

"Country Honk" is basically an acoustic version of "Honky Tonk Woman"
