That's actually one of the scenes I remember laughing at.

You took the first movie at face value so of course you wouldn't.

Anyone else feel Zoolander is over rated simpleton humor?

Depends on what you think simpleton humor means. Most of the jokes in Zoolander are overly simple and stupid...that's kind of the point. I mean, the main character is a completely self-obsessed male model who thinks he is the shite while everybody else laughs AT him.

It's supposed to be stupid. It's supposed to be "simple." It's about vapid male models getting caught up in international conspiracies and whatnot. I mean, there's a gasoline fight for chrissakes.

I'm not saying you have to like it, OP, but I always kinda feel bad for people when they can't just sit back an enjoy a silly/stupid comedy.

Well then that explains it.

When this movie came out (just before the height of Stiller and Wilson's popularity BTW) you hadn't discovered them because it was Olson twins and Lizzie McGuire in your household TV time.

It is also important to remember what was going on in pop culture at the time. The boy band was nearing it's peak. This was MTV and TRL's last stand before napster changed everything.

So the pop celebrities at the time were in a bubble of self-gratification and just utter ridiculousness.

this is what the two biggest pop icons looked like when this movie came out.

I like that Fabio was given the Slash award.

But mostly for his acting and not for his modeling.

Speaking of cultural icons at the time. Remember Lenny Kravitz anyone? I can't even remember why he was so huge back then apart from 1 song.

Out of everyone in the movie, I think Billy Zane aged the best.

He's still a cool dude.

I had the same question.

I can understand if you didn't like Zoolander, I loved it, but it is stupid humor.

Airplane and Caddyshack on the other hand are timeless classics and if you don't enjoy them I honestly think you have a mental condition.

2 songs. One was a cover of a guess who song that he was inexplicably famous for, and the other was fly away. The only lyrics of which anyone knows is "I want to fly away."

But I guess we're seeing the changing of the guard.

People coming along saying:

Holy Grail
Airplane
Caddyshack
Animal House
Blazing Saddles
The Jerk

All suck.

Maybe if you are 30 and under those movies don't reasonate or mean anything to you...and probably not seem funny considering you don't really get most of the 80's let alone the shift from the 70's to the 80's.

it was used as the single off the Austin Powers 2 soundtrack

Heather Grahman was so fine in that movie but the Austin Powers movies haven't aged well

I am 26 and I love them all. Most of my friends love all of those too.

Blazing saddles, Animal house and Holy Grail are all timeless classics.
