Wrestling critique from a 90’s fan

Just watched MITB last night. Awesome show. I’m excited for the Netflix deal.
Are finishers not a thing anymore? I think I counted multiple super kicks ( sweet chin music ), choke slams power bombs ( last ride ) and an attempted pedigree in one match.
What’s up with this new generation of wrestling?
/ old man rant off

Spamming near falls into the final minutes of matches has been in vogue at WWE for a bit, now. I don’t care for it, but the business changes, I suppose.
I really tire of how the wrestler making the failed pin attempt will grab handfuls of his own hair and look directly into the camera with their best “I can’t believe he kicked out of that!’ face.

From what I understand, that style is very popular in the independent circuits and a lot of the top guys today came from that level and over time the WWE has allowed more and more of this style given its popularity, and now are outwardly promoting it and going all in with the Speed promotions which tend to be all finishers and end within 60 seconds
I’ve seen clips of old guys joking about it (Shawn Michaels in particular because everyone seems to use the super kick these days and it’s been neutered). They allude to Jake roberts & the DDT in a similar vein for their generation so some level of this has always been around, but they certainly have ramped it up massively. But as the person above says, times change and it’s built for the younger audience that want it all in very short bursts and likely got into wresting by playing a video game where you do spam your finishers over and over and that over time became the demand

All I needed to know. Pro wrestling was ruined when the Indy car crash stunt shows became en vogue among the major promotions.

You aren’t lying.
And it’s puzzling, as judging by AEW’s abysmal TV ratings, indie style wrestling can’t draw flies to shite.

Gimme a Figure 4 submission hold, the Scorpion deathlock or a double drop kick any day of the week.

Watch Gunther matches. You'll love them.

Haven't watched wrestling regularly in years. But I distinctly remember following the HHH v Sting fued about 5-6 yrs ago.
When I watched the match, it started with a tie up and side head lock. It was like watching something from another universe.
Another really under the radar example is the 1986 Road Warriors v Midnight Expressnm match for WCW tag title. There were essentially zero high spots, but it's one of the most entertaining matches you'll ever see.

The storylines are no longer believable. The acting is horrible. Just a crap product compared to what is used to be

This.
Ddt, bulldog, superkick use to be finishing moves.
The 2 minute sleeper hold and the fans would chant boring.
