Watch TrickRTreat. There is some CGI (one scene in particular), but there are a lot of practical effects. And it's a great Halloween film.
And be on the lookout for the same director's next film, Krampus. Looks like there are a lot of practical effects in that one as well.

I think so. People are starting to realize that a lot of CGI is just garbage. Look at John Carpenter's The Thing, Alien, American Werewolf in London -- that stuff still looks good (even in HD) and is still scary.
