Yeah, my theater was shockingly silent. People were going nuts throughout TFA and parts of RO. Didn’t hear large scale peeps from anyone save for when we saw the opening crawl. May have heard 3 or 4 claps at the end, and this was in an IMAX screening where they could fit a fricking army. The guy beside me started off giddy with his girlfriend during the first 30 minutes, and then halfway through the movie I saw the lights die from his eyes.

And so Disney is purposely alienating double the amount of its fanbase, by killing off the male leads? Because unless its Halloween, I haven't seen a lot of boys in my lifetime running around pretending to be dead people, as their heroes?

I actually thought that was explained in the movie. Snoke was traditional. He was (or wanted to be) a Sith Lord with an apprentice. When Kylo served his role as an apprentice, Snoke wanted Rey because she had a different kind of power.
Kylo killed Snoke because he saw an opportunity for a unique partnership with Rey. Together as balanced Force users, they could have ultimate power. That’s why he said to her to join him so they could forget wars and the past and to move onto something new.

I have a young daughter and Rey was her entry into Star Wars and she is now a huge SW fan. I love that.
