When did Chevy Chase become so painful to watch?

He was solid in Caddyshack, Fletch, Vacation and Christmas Vacation. I think he lost it on Vegas Vacation. Now on Community, it's like he's had a stroke or something.

Ever since he decided to go the Hollywood route of being as obnoxious of a liberal as possible...right after Vegas Vacation, I believe.

I never found him all that funny. Except for Caddyshack and the first 2 Vacation films. Other than that, meh.

I don't think it's cause of politics even his fellow liberals don't like him. It's cause he's a jerk and an a-hole to most everyone.

He used to be funny, but now he is just an embarrassment. He seems almost retarded. I've never seen an actor change so much.

I think Nothing But Trouble was the beginning of the end. There was soon good work before that (everything everyone has already named, plus 3 Amigos, Spies Like Us, and maybe Funny Farm).
Beginning with Nothing But Trouble, which was absolute shite, he went downhill quickly. Cops and Robersons? Man of the House? And everything in between...crap.

He totally lost his mojo when he did that talk show that lasted at most 3 episodes. Trust me, I watched it and not even his own mother could tolerate watching an entire show.

I honestly don't understand this thinking. Why the frick does someone's politics (as if any of you really know what Chase's politics truly are) affect your enjoyment of his performance. I really find that fricking mystifying.
BTW, Chase just wasn't very good after the first season of SNL.
