S1/E13, Murder to a Jazz Beat - A lot of jazz including a clarinet named after a woman, smugglers, and a cab driver named Lafayette:
S2/E21, The Perfect Foil - Organized crime, Mardi Gras, New Orleans’ finest sporting club, dirty politician, cousin Cal, and a detective who speaks with a French accent. And Kitty Manette (pic does not do justice):
S8/E6, Judge Not - Dirty prosecutor, a blues man named John "Daddy" Coop, a second line, beignets (beenyaaaaaaaayyys), a gunfight in a cemetery, Luna Santee a/k/a the Witch, a cop who is at a breaking point.
S12/E4, Big Easy Murder - Voodoo, machete murders, dirty politician, journalist investigating a syndicate trying to control the local supper clubs, alleged illegitimate child of the help from 30 years prior (there is a lot going on in this episode). Olivia Cole had significant roles in 3 of the 4 N.O. episodes, including as the voodoo practicing housekeeper here:

I never watched MSW
But I do know that one ep was filmed from a script that had been written for Ellery Queen in 1975-6
And FWIW, Angela was 2nd choice. The role was originally offered to Jean Stapletom

quote:i did not know that but looked it up. "The Grand Old Lady" Is a season six episode where Jessica introduces the story but doesn’t participate. So it suffers from that obviously. I don’t particularly like the characters in it with once exception. Robert Vaughn is stellar in his role as a new media (radio) hard charging reporter who tries to best the lead, who is being assisted by an aging mystery writer. It’s one of three appearances for Vaughn in the series and his is fantastic in all three.
Ellery Queen

quote:That would most likely be in the deleted scenes from the Mardi Gras episode. Jessica arrives in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday in an effort to locate here ne'er-do-well cousin, who she’s never met. Her search for him through the costumed festivities is quite hilarious. Right up until local crime boss Johnny Blaze is murdered by someone dressed as Cyrano de Bergerac, a costume her cousin also happened to be wearing.

On that night, she was told that the closest available hotel room is in Baton Rogue. Which is funny to me, because I was told the same thing in the early 90s after sleeping in my car one night the last weekend of Mardi Gras. Except that I was told the closest available rooms are in Mississippi (and that I needed to go find one).

I loved the crossover with Walker: Texas Ranger where Jessica went undercover as a Beaumont prostitute to expose that biker gang's human trafficking cartel.

quote:Absolutely chews up the role. A tour de force. My only complaint about the episode is that he doesn’t get near enough screen time. He and “Miss Jessica” have an incredible rapport.
