it's pretty thick. It is similar to boardwalk in terms of the subtext, heavy dialogue with the added caveat of interpretation.

by romanticized mafia I mean something similar to goodfellas

I've been told before that Pysch was pretty good. Going to have to add it to my list.

i finally got around to watching the sopranos. i'm on either episode 8 or 9 of season 1 and i just don't like it at all so far

Sopranos was good for its time. I just did a rewatch and it doesn't hold up to good. Especially the first season. There was some bad acting, bad editing, bad directing, bad music.

In comparison to network tv at the time it was great. We have more options today so it might not wow newcomers.

I think it is a terrible show to binge watch because EVERYONE is despicable.

Janice Soprano is one of the worst characters in tv history and Olivia Soprano is right behind her. Ralphie isn't too far behind.

Carmella and her self righteous sanctimonious BS makes the show hard to watch at time.

Shut up AJ!
Shut up Meadow!

Quit your whining Christopher!

I don't want to get into spoilers but there was a couple of characters who deep down wanted to be good and the show was really a battle of conscience...that's about as toned down as I can make it without revealing spoilers

I can't stop watching. It is pretty darn good. I sometimes wish the main character was a little less goofy, but I get over it pretty quickly.

how would you recommend watching the sopranos for maximum enjoyment if binging is not the best route? one episode a day, a week, a month?

I watched it about one a day...If you try and do it once a week, you'll lose interest because you don't have it dvr'd and you don't have promos building excitement.

I just did it once a day. I think it is a late night show.

Shows like that aren't meant to be taken in so quickly. I feel like boardwalk is very similar, and that's how I plan on doing the wire because I tried to start the wire and stonewall each time kind of how you described.

just wait...a.j. and Janice are two of the most despicable/annoying characters in a serious drama that I can think of...well maybe that's a bit much for a.j. (he's just an annoying, lazy, spoiled whiner) but Janice is the fricking worst

yeah, I don't think lost is great at all, but it feels like it when you're binge watching it.

It's because everything moves quickly and there isn't a lot to process beyond what is literally happening on screen.

Boardwalk is so filled with subtext and imagery, etc. it is exhausting to watch 2 episodes in a night. Even season 3 which I found disappointing had all of this.

same here. lost probably wouldn't even make my top 10 list but there is no other show that i watched in such a short period of time. there were multiple days when i watched around 15 episodes
