Just make an original idea
I like original movies as much as anyone but they dont make any money in theaters (Exceptions for a few directors like Nolan and James Cameron) Lets follow the box office for the 3 good original movies that just released in the other thread. Warframe, Drop, the Amateur.

why spend 500 million remaking/marketing something that was perfectly good to begin with, and hoping to make 600 million on it, instead of just re-releasing the original and make a guaranteed 100 million?
Hard to launder money with a low/no budget. Also your 100 million estimate is probably way off. I think most would rather just watch at home unless they think something is gonna be a new cultural phenomenon that they wanna be able to talk about on social media before it hits streaming.
The 2012 Titanic re-release made $58 million domestically.
The 2023 Titanic 25 Year anniversary re-release made $15 million domestically.
Theaters are based around social media hype/content creation now.
