Which one? The Elf or the NCIS-NOLA agent?

Warcraft has visual thrills to spare, but they -- and director Duncan Jones' distinctive gifts -- are wasted on a sluggish and derivative adaptation of a bestselling game with little evident cinematic value.

Warcraft, the fantasy video game adaptation from Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures, has recorded advanced ticket sales of 129m RMB ($19.64m) in China ahead of its release on June 8 – two days before its North America roll-out.
It means Warcraft has the third-highest midnight pre-sales total of all time behind Furious 7 and Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Pre-sales of midnight screenings will pass Age Of Ultron today.

Apparently Warcraft is the biggest in China

From what I am seeing it seems like the average joe who goes to see a movie is enjoying it a lot. But critics and movie snobs can't get past that it is a video game movie and the CGI.
Most regular people reviews say it is not perfect but a fun movie. Plus I quit reading critics reviews when well over half of them quote the wrong source material for the movie.

That's the same feeling I've been getting. It's been much more positive with fans of the game and the general public that's already seen it. Of course it won't connect with everyone but I'm just hoping it does enough to continue on the franchise. Time will tell.

So like majority of comic book movies then
But even then regular joes will go see comic book movies because they are already aware of most of the characters. I can't see that many people who never played Warcraft be all that interested in seeing this movie

There are probably very few people under the age of 55 that don't know anything at all about Warcraft. All of the games have been huge successes and anyone who hasn't played any of the games very likely has someone in their life that has who are going to go see it and are talking about how good the story actually is to them.

I'm way under 55 and know nothing about Warcraft other than its a video game
And I don't know anyone who played/plays the game or wants to go see this movie
I realize it's a huge game in the computer gaming world, but I just don't see many people outside of that world being interested in it

But you are aware of it.
Admittedly it will naturally be more appealing to those of us who played the games. The thing is, if even half of the people who played the games go see it, it will make a ton of money and that is what they are banking on otherwise they probably would have named it differently.

I'll be taking my son, I imagine many will be doing the same

Ok. But that's not what you were saying in your other post
If just being aware of something correlated to box office success then Hollywood would be swimming in pools of liquid gold
And I'm not arguing that it will or won't make money. I'm talking about the audiences being primarily gamers who play it

Regardless 25 million people have probably played WOW. At peak it was 11 Million, but there are millions who have had to quit and come back.
That is not even including the Warcraft RTS that came before it that was very popular and Blizzard's other game called Hearthstone that is based off of wow. Millions play that game and will probably go see it.
This will make more than people think this summer just because people see that WOW is down to like 6 million subscribers and think that no one else will go see the movie.
There are a lot of people invest in the universe and that alone will bring in huge numbers.

Yea, I'm sure of that as well. I was just talking about general audiences who haven't played the game and the other poster claiming most people either played it or know someone who does which will cause more people to go see it. That I disagree with. If it was just about awareness then none of hollywoods big budget movies would ever flop

I'm agreeing that that will be the bulk of who is going. I was also pointing out that many of us who did play will likely be taking other people who have never played. I am taking 2 people who have never played myself. Many spouses who have never played will be taken with their spouse who did play. That was what I was getting at. Is the average single person who is only briefly aware that it's a game going to go see it on their own? Probably not, but that's not exactly their target audience either.

RT is such a meaningless, awful gauge to rate movies. I highly doubt this movie is an 18%.
