For anyone interested, this WW2 documentary is available on Roku TV. I remember watching this with my dad and it is undoubtedly one of the best…if not the best…documentaries of WW2 from a naval perspective. It was done shortly after the war ended too…so there is a ton of actual footage and it’s very patriotic. Fascinating watch.

Doesnt get enough attention. Tom Hanks said if he lived long enough he was doing a Navy/Pacific series.

I loved watching the footage of that show. When you realize it's not Hollywood making a fictitious movie and those ships and sailors are taking live ammo, it really hits home.
Video of those Japanese Kamikaze pilots deliberately slamming their planes into the U.S. ships is eerie to watch. Then to think those pilots volunteered for those suicide missions with many of them looking upon it like an act of honor.
I can't imagine being on a ship in the middle of an ocean and a squadron of those martyrs are diving out of the clouds with only one purpose in mind.

I haven’t gotten to it yet but there’s and episode about the dangers of being at sea IIRC. It has some great footage of these massive warships being tossed around.
And the soundtrack is legendary BTW.
