Just got back from the theater. I was pretty impressed with it. The story line was great IMO. Anyone else seen it?

We're big movie people and spouse, 21 yr old son and I saw this yesterday. We all LOVED IT! It was a lot funnier than I thought it would be and also touching. I read an article that some of the terminated people in the movie were not actors but actual people who had been let go from their company. At least they got in a movie!

Loved it, but I identified with Clooney's character a lot. The people I saw it with all thought it was depressing. I thought it was quite hopeful.

Huge Giant Spoiler so avoid if you have not seen the movie....

I liked it but I was strangely unsatisfied with Alex being married with kids. It isn't that I wanted a happy Hollywood ending with them together. I wanted her reject him but I felt having it due to her having a home life cheapened it a bit. I guess I should have figured out that was the way they were going to go when she talks about her ideal husband in Miami and talking about wanting children but to be honest I was more enamored with her being the female version of himself and wanted her rejection of him to be along those lines rather than the modern mom out for a tryst.

here is why that would have been weaker

SPPPOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIILLLLLLEEERRRS below

clooney has his realization that his life choices may not exactly be the best/healthiest

if she is in a similar boat, her rejecting him hurts him, but we still revert back to, "oh well that life choice is just bad. she will learn."

having her character be married with kids, and having that all as a fantasy (for her) creates more layering of her character and for the story itself. it's easy to say, "well she's an a-hole like he was," but it's harder to say, "even she had a family and kids, and her isolationist ploy was only a fantasy for her."

The moment he showed up to Chicago to see her, I knew what her situation was. I actually appreciate the fact that the director avoided a storybook conclusion.

I liked the movie but couldn't buy why she wouldn't have told him she was married. He wouldn't have cared. Does anyone know a single guy like that character that would have shied away from an affair with a hot arse married chick on the road? Also, it would have served to better protect her. Loved the movie, but this part made no sense to me.

That's what makes the movie interesting, IMO. For apparently the first time in a long time, our protagonist allows himself to become vulnerable. It helps you empathize with him, considering many people make themselves vulnerable only to be hurt. The look on his face when the door opens and he makes his realization might as well be that of one of the people he's fired. Were it not for that moment, it's harder for the audience to sympathize for the guy.
