Well, most of my theories have been shot to hell so far, but I'll give my thoughts and they could salvage some of the main ones:
The jumper cables work and the sheriff tells them what he knows and where to find the cult. They find them in the act, kill them all and stage it to look like the sheriff was helping them bust the cult and was killed in the fight (he is actually shot by Cohle's friend who owns the bar). When the smoke clears, one of the current five of the cult is Hart's FIL or they find evidence of his involvement. I still say that he exposed Audrey to the cult.

You have posted something about Rust's character being unbelievable in every single thread about this show since episode one. Jesus Christ man, let it the frick go already.

Toward the beginning of the series in the first few episodes Rust was having hallucinations due to his drug usage. Once he got clean those visions stopped. He saw things like a flock of birds form a swirl at the burnt church. He saw the ghost of a girl on the side of the road. He was riding with Marty and the sky turned to red. But those visions were hallucinations.

I found this new theory to be interesting.
Unfortunately this dude goes on to say that Rust planted the body, bla bla bla.
I do like the idea that the crime scene was staged to expose the cult.

So why would one of them drag the body of Dora Lange, antlers and all, to be found by the police. Why would that person START A FIRE to make sure the police and fire department had to descend on the area and discover the body?
It seems pretty obvious to me now that Dora Lange was a plant. Perhaps she had truly been killed in the usual fashion by the cult, but if that’s the case, it seems like one of the members had a bout of conscience and wanted to get caught. After that, Tuttle and his people tried to take over the investigation “jimminy quick with a fricking task force,” as Cohle pointed out last weekend. But Cohle avoids making the next leap, which is that while the symbolism (antlers, spiral tattoo) clearly represents the modus operandi of the cult, the public display absolutely does not

In the screencaps it seems as if the sheriff is holding a gun to his head.
I have watched that 6 or 7 times and I don't think it it looks like he is holding a gun. The way his hand his held looks more like he is either waving his hand or just getting up after being knocked down.

Yeah, I just looked at it in a frame by frame analysis and his hand is being blocked they the cross hairs of the scope. In it hard to tell definitively but it looks like he has a gun based on the position of his hand. His hand is positioned as if he were pointing a gun at his head. It is fuzzy but you can almost make out a gun.

No gun. You can see his thumb pointing down and his palm open.

Why would they give him his gun back? Makes no sense.

Because Rust told him if he gets an opportunity he should kill himself...

Did you guys catch that dude on the right side of the scope screen? Looks like Errol in a costume of some kind.

I think its time to step away from the preview. All you can see is a fat guy. Aside from the fat, there is nothing that points to it being Errol.

Okay, I will change that to I "think" is looks like Errol.

Now that is a good question. I think it's a man. I was trying to see if there was a tattoo on the right arm to determine if it was Rust. I didn't see a tattoo though

They def chose the shots well for the preview to make it ambiguous. Skinny like a female, but somehow seemed masculine to me.
I can't fricking wait for the finale.
