I can't believe how much negativity there is towards Tombstone, which is one of the most enjoyable westerns ever made. Most westerns are downers (not complaining, I love 'em, but they are what they are).... Tombstone is just good fun and so so quotable.

"Hell, I got lots of friends."
"I don't."

Movie made my top 20 of the 90's.

Please tell me you're joking.

In any event, Tombstone was a lot of fun. Not one of the greatest westerns, though.

Love Tombstone. Sure some of the acting is suspect, but it's a fun movie. I think Val Kilmer is excellent in this movie as Doc Holliday. Also gotta love fat Billy Bob Thorton getting smacked around by Kurt Russell.

What is the Movie/TV board's take on Tombstone.

I like Tombstone it's just that it's becoming one of the most over discussed movies on the board.

Wyatt Earp > Tombstone

now just wait, here's why.

1. Tombstone's dialogue is cheesy as all hell. besides Kilmer pulling his off cause he's the best actor in the movie.

2. Earp acts like a pussy to Mattie in Tombstone. in Wyatt Earp he dont give a frick. he makes it odvious he wants Josie's fine arse.

3. Joanna Going is a hotter Josie.

4. Jeff Fahey is a better Ike.

5. Costner plays a better Earp. (again, he's colder)

6. Wyatt Earp, all in all, just tells the story better. its directed like "Unforgiven" is, which is another favorite western of mine.

7. And finally, without Val Kilmer, Tombestone just plain sucks.

Some things I'll chalf up to differences of opinion, but are you kidding me? The ike in tombstone is perhaps the most unlikebale character in move history. He is literally devoid of any positive qualities. He's not just evil, he's stupid and a coward. I love Tombstone's Ike. I mean, you hate him during that movie.

I will admit to thinking Costner's Earp is more honest, but who wants honesty in a hero-making epic?

Tombstone is a great Western but there are plenty of older flicks that are better Western movies. Tombstone just has a modern day cult-like following. The Man with No Name Trilogy and countless John Wayne movies are def better though... One more thing. F "Wyatt Earp." That movie sucks big time. Tombstone blows that movie out of the water. Val Kilmer = Gold

My main gripe about Wyatt Earp is that Kevin Costner was a giant puss for 3/4 of the movie. I mean Wyatt Earp was a three hour movie and spent maybe 5 minutes on the most intriguing part of the mans life. Fail. And most people think it's historically more accurate than Tombstone. Those people would be wrong.

anyone ever notice the same recurring theme with Tombstone? Val Kilmer. He WAS that movie. Without him it sucks.

Wyatt Earp > Tombstone

Unforgiven > Tombstone

Open Range > Tombstone

3:10 to Yuma > Tombstone

Id like to prove you wrong on all those points other than Unforgiven. But when a > sign is your only means of reasoning it's kind of hard to debate, just saying.

Wyatt Earp = better casting all around, more true to the actual events.

Open Range = better story, casting and more authentic as a western

Unforgiven = no need to explain

3:10 To Yuma = Freakin Batman and Maximus? Great job remaking a great western.

maybe i'm stretching it on 3:10 to Yuma, but the others are solid.

The cast is all personal preference on who you like. I personally think Doc, Ike and Curly Bill are WAY better in Tombstone and it's not even close. Mark Madsen was a much better Virgil. The rest are a wash as far as I'm concerned.
Wyatt Earp never gave you anybody to hate, that is one thing that drove me crazy. Three hours and I never even cared if Ike or Curly Bill died. It wanted to be an epic and wasn't epic. Tombstone wanted to be a popcorn flick, and was fun as he'll.
That and like you, most people think Wyatt Earp isore accurate because it's 1) longer and 2) gives backstory. I'm on my phone or I'd link a few articles that show Tombstone actually holds truer to actual events.

I love Open Range. More authentic of a country western. Not more authentic of an old west western. Just depends on how you look at it.

Most around here don't like 3:10 to Yuma. I didn't mind it at all. But for the simple fact that wasn't as good as the original I don't rate it above Tombstone.

don't get me wrong, i like Tombstone, and as stated it was a popcorn flick and it accomplished it's goal in that regard. But IMO other than the oustanding job from Val Kilmer, the movie just doesn't have much substance.
