Tom Hardy better be wary of going the way of Edward Norton

Like Edward Norton, Hardy is someone fresh and raw and someone who quickly jumped to the spotlight after a lead role in a small film. Now he's finding his way into big Hollywood movies. As Norton became more and more popular he began to fade due to lack of the newness, and his roles/diversity faltered due to his similar mannerisms and speech/tone throughout his films.

Careful, Tom. I like you too much to see you become trite.

Disagree. I still think Norton can act as well as anyone, but he seems to choose roles based on $$$ now more than artistic merit.

ETA: choose/chose

You've obviously never seen Leaves of Grass.

Do yourself a favor and watch some of his latest films and tell me he doesn't act and sound the same in his last 8-10 movies.

This is a fact. I haven't.

Looking at his filmography, I haven't seen him in anything since The Illusionist, but I thought that was decent. In 25th Hour he was excellent. And if you say a cross word about Death to Smoochy, I might e-murder you.

Doesn't fall into the range I'm talking about.

Not sure how any of this applies to Hardy, he's all over the place with his range. Not sure how his roles in Rocknrolla, Bronson, or Inception are anything alike. I guess you could maybe go for the mannerisms thing, but it's a stretch IMO.

Norton has just faded due to being in crap films mostly IMO.

I think he's saying that Norton came out of the gate on fire as well, which he did. We just disagree as to why he's lost his luster.

This is my thought as well.

He was good in Hulk, but dude hasn't done a ton of work lately. He seems to me like a guy with out a great agent. There should be roles out there for him. No doubt he is talented, I believe he is far from washed-up. He's not a leading man on the traditional sense, but a good actor. Should've stuck with the Avengers franchise to up his visibility.

Call me nitpicky, but I am starting to see Hardy's mannerisms...Hardy-isms that are coming through in his roles.

I don't mind it, I just want to make sure it doesn't lead to stagnancy.

I agree. If he let DiCaprio/DiCaprio's people pick his roles for him, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I kind of disagree. I am just afraid that too much Norton keeps him too familiar.

I can pick out his voice too easily. I can see his mannerisms before they happen. American History X was totally different. He was unrecognizable there. The only time he seemed like Norton was when they showed the news clip where he had long hair before he got buff.

Agreed.

I'm still of the opinion that it's a byproduct of roles though. He isn't challenging himself.

Admittedly, I haven't watched any films of his recently, but to me; that validates my point. What he's been in hasn't piqued my interest.

He was good in stone. A little off but still good. He's consistent but I think he choice of roles has hurt him.

Norton doesn't get very many roles any more because he's difficult to work with. There are many stories about him being a demanding a-hole behind the scenes. Its why he's not in The Avengers. I don't think it has anything to do with talent.
